Thank You to Vilnius City Municipality for Supporting the World Blind Tennis Championships

On 7 October, representatives of Blind Tennis Lithuania presented a token of appreciation to Vilnius City Municipality for its significant contribution to organising the 2026 IBTA World Blind Tennis Championships in Vilnius. Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas accepted it on behalf of the municipality.

The partial funding provided by Vilnius City Municipality was essential to organising the World Championships. Without this support, hosting an international blind tennis event of this scale in Vilnius would not have been possible.

The championships brought more than 150 members of the blind tennis community from around the world to Vilnius, including athletes, coaches, team members and other representatives of the sport. Throughout the event, Vilnius gained visibility within the international blind tennis community and was promoted as a city where inclusive sport can grow and where international events at the highest level can be hosted.

International guests also left with warm impressions of Vilnius itself. In their feedback, participants praised the city’s beauty and welcoming atmosphere, its clean streets, delicious food, and warm and hospitable people. The World Championships thus became not only an important sporting event but also an opportunity to introduce Vilnius to the international community.

The token of appreciation was presented to the Mayor by Blind Sport Lt President Karolis Verbliugevičius and Vice-President Aidas Danilovas. During the meeting, they also outlined plans for the development of blind tennis and shared their vision for the future.

We hope that cooperation with Vilnius City Municipality will continue and that Vilnius will keep contributing to the growth of the blind tennis community while strengthening its reputation as a city that welcomes inclusive sport.
